LIGHT is a series showcasing African American women of darker complexion in bright clothing and lipstick to combat the stigma I grew up with that “you’re too dark to wear bright colors!” This stigma of darker skin being inferior stems from internal and external racism with the African American community. I fight this uncomfortability of being told this growing up and the internal struggle this creates with Black women by giving the voice back through them being able to wear the colors we’re often told not to wear.
